New Year Resolutions for Your Adventurous Pet

A new year means a time for new adventures! You can start your goals off right with your four-legged pack by introducing new hikes, new parks, new friends, and new activities to keep your dog motivated and excited. This could be your most memorable year yet! Below is a list of resolutions to help set your adventure intentions for the new year.

Create a Bucket List with Your Dog

Do you have a bucket list? This could be the year to create yours! Include your pet in your experience planning and start a list of things you want to do someday. Think of things you could accomplish with your pack during the new year but also ideas for fun in the future. Start small, plan a summit hike with your pup or plan a trip to another state or even another country if you are feeling brave! Trips with your dog can be an amazing experience.

If you have a phone with a quality camera and access to the internet, start an Instagram for your fearless four-legged friend! With proper posting and exciting content, your dog could be a social media superstar in a few months.

Go On More Adventures

The new year is the perfect time to explore new adventures, both indoors and outdoors! Take your pup on new hikes locally or jump on AllTrails and find somewhere a little further away to venture. If you are looking to make friends on the trail for you and your pup, there are plenty of Facebook groups to find likeminded pet parents. Pack hikes are great socialization work for your pet and an opportunity for you to make friends as well.

Once you create a pack of like-minded, adventure-hungry pet parents, start planning excursions to visit dog-friendly National Parks near you and on your bucket list. There are plenty of gorgeous, dog-friendly National Parks scattered across the US and beyond. Be bold on your adventures!

Find a New Dog-Friendly Hobby

Your adventure pet may join you on hikes and camping expeditions, but what other outdoor activities have they tried with you? From aquatic adventures to mountain escapades, there are plenty of new hobbies to get out and enjoy! The hotter days call for water fun and everyone loves a float down a river or on a lake. Take your pup on the water with a kayak or paddleboard. Be sure to bring a water jacket for your fur baby; even the strongest swimmer could use the extra buoyancy.

If the mountains are more your thing, take your pup out for a climb or switch up the hike to a steady run through the forest. Trail running is a great endurance building exercise and climbing will also help practice patience with your pup.

Keep an Adventure Journal

Journaling is a great tool to exercise your mind and get your thoughts out in front of you! Start the year with an adventure journal to record the memories you make with your pack. Your journal can include all your thoughts about your outdoor fun. Write about the activities of the day and record your favorite trails: why you like them, defining features, special stops and more. You can even record the milage and hours spent on your routes. Keep track of things that you would do differently to make future trips easier on you and your pack.

To add some extra flare to an adventure journal, kick it old school and make it a scrapbook! Print out and include photos of your fun in the wild. You can add captions and razzle-dazzle to every page.

Rally Your Friends to Join You

Although solo hikes with your dogs are top tier, it is always nice to have a group of fellow dog and nature enthusiasts to bring on the trails. Start to plan more group hikes and adventures in the wild but make sure that those you invite into the wild abide by Mother Nature’s rules. If your friends are new to the trails, teach them the Leave No Trace practices and raise awareness of the impact of a carbon footprint. Lastly, resolve to give your pet more Triumph treats this year!
